Tips & Tricks for Sand Engine conditions

Check out our tips & tricks before you decide to go kitesurfing:

• Make sure you have good equipment!
• Go kitesurfing on Kijkduin with not too much wind if you are not advanced yet. Enjoy the view and have a nice drink!
• If you see our Kitesurfschool instructors, we recommend asking them what they think of the wind at Kijkduin that day. We specialise in checking the wind through and through, so we in Kijkduin are starting to look like weathermen and women.
• The lifeguards in Kijkduin will tell you when it is definitely not good to go into the water. Is there a red flag in the mast? Then you should definitely not enter the water at Kijkduin.
• Should the wind suddenly change at Kijkduin, make sure you use the safety system and stay calm. Get off the water, get someone to grab your kite and wait out the squall. If our instructors or the coastguard see you, you will definitely be helped.

Please note that due to the flow of the Sand Engine from inside and out, dangerous situations may occur. Due to the wind in Kijkduin in combination with the current, (fatal) accidents sometimes occur here. Fortunately, there are lifeguards present in Kijkduin who tell you when it is definitely not good to go into the water. If there is a red flag in the mast, always make sure you are not going into the water for a viewing dune.

• There are many accidents every year because of the current. Because it can go in and out, dangerous situations arise.
• Even people who are good swimmers can get into dangerous situations.
• Nothing is as treacherous as a squall with wind in Kijkduin or in the Netherlands. Fortunately, Kijkduin is a helpful spot and everyone is open to helping you.
